Trauma and Frustration

Job's Story Growing up in a war zone has meant that many of Liberia’s children have been exposed to terrible trauma, abuse and the frustration that goes with being unable to avoid either the pain or the memories of the horror. This lesson recognizes this trauma and frustration and encourages children to seek wonderful hope and deep healing in a relationship with the living God. Teacher Advisory: This lesson contains true stories of graphic events from the war in Liberia. Your thoughtful evaluation will determine if the content is suitable for your group. This module was developed in Liberia to aid in recovery from a 14 years brutal civil war which affected almost every part of Liberian society, including children. To help Liberia be restored, rebuilt and live at peace again the issues of forgiveness, love, conflict resolution, sexual abuse, etc must be addressed. The church has been lacking and so these lessons will be a tool in the hands of the churches in Liberia to begin re-building the broken walls of Liberia. There is a big need for healing presently. People were abused, raped and tortured and were exposed to violence and drugs during the war. These 8 lessons were written for children who were abused and misused, some of whom watched their parents being killed. Teenagers who were sexually abused, traumatized, etc will also benefit from these lessons and the hope is to target every Liberian who is carrying the scars of war, unforgiveness and shame in their heart from day to day. About 80 children's ministry workers, sports ministry leaders, orphanage home workers, pastors and youth volunteers were involved in the writing of these lessons including some victims and 3 former rebel soldiers (1 female and 2 male).
