Sometimes there is a 'reality gap' between the giving of God's promises and their fulfillment, as Abraham discovers in Genesis 15:1-6. This is a common experience and requires the difficult discipline of waiting. Abraham has a double concern but God comes to him in a word of encouragement with a double promise. And Abraham responds with magnificent faith, a saving faith which is a gift of God, as it always is.
