Wholeness of Spirit - Confession

This is a 90 minute Training session with PowerPoint and video support materials. In this session, we will discover the spiritual discipline of personal confession. We will learn the elements of confession, why it is important, and how to practice it. What is confession? “Confession is the spiritual discipline that allows us to enter into the grace and mercy of God in such a way that we experience forgiveness and healing for the sins and sorrows of the past.” (Richard Foster, The Making of an Ordinary Saint) For followers of Jesus, confession is the discipline of admitting our sins. Our heart transformation leads to a change in behavior (repentance). We confess our sins to God (Psalm 51) and to others (James 5:16). Why is confession important?        Sin separates us from God. As we strive to grow closer to Him, confession restores our relationship with God. (1 John 1:8-9)        Confession brings healing and reconciliation to our relationship with one another. (James 5:16)        Confession releases us from guilt, and enables us to receive forgiveness from God and others. How do we practice confession?        Ask God to reveal your sins through His Word and the Holy Spirit.        Pray for humility, confess your sins, and ask God and/or others for forgiveness.        Have an accountability partner to help you identify and confess your sins.
