Wholeness of Spirit - Fasting

This 90 minute Training session will help us to explore how fasting brings us into a more intimate relationship with God. To fast, we abstain from one or more parts of our normal life to use the time to focus on our spiritual life. Fasting and prayer often go together.

What is fasting? Fasting is a complete submission of our body, mind, and soul. It helps us to have intimate communication and relationship with God.        It is a powerful tool to connect us to God.        It helps us avoid the distractions of this world, focusing on humbling ourselves before God.        The primary reason to fast is to strengthen prayer.        We need to be aware of our motives to fast. Fasting for higher social status or because we believe God will reward us is wrong. Daniel 1, Ezra 8:21-23, Zechariah 7:4-7

Why should we fast? Jesus assumed His followers would fast.        There are many reasons for a believer to fast - to strengthen prayer, make a decision, stop distractions, or get a breakthrough in a challenge being faced.        Fasting must reflect our humility and dependence on God. 2 Samuel 12:16, Jonah 3:1-10, Isaiah 58:1-8, Acts 13:2, Acts 14:23

How should we fast? Jesus set the example for fasting and gave specific instructions. We can learn from Him.        We can fast from food, technology, drinking, social events, hobbies and more        Fasting can be initiated by a circumstance (Esther 4)        Fasting can have nutritional restrictions (Daniel 1:8)        A person can fast individually or with a group of people (Acts 13:1-3) Matthew 6:16-18

This training session is supported by PowerPoint and Video presentations.
